REPORT ON GANDHIJAYANTHI CELEBRATION 2025
In honor of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi , Mahatma College of Education organized a comprehensive Gandhi Jayanthi Week. Recognizing that Gandhiji’s vision, each department within the college conducted specialized programmes to internalize his views.
NATURAL SCIENCE
As part of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, the Natural Science Department of Mahatma College of Education, Nileshwar, organized a meaningful garden-making programme on October 9 at the Taluk Hospital, Nileshwar. To honor Mahatma Gandhi’s core values of cleanliness, service, and a deep love for nature, students and faculty worked together to clean the hospital premises and establish a new green space by planting various saplings. This initiative not only enhanced the greenery of the hospital surroundings to create a more soothing environment for patients and visitors but also provided students with a hands-on lesson in environmental stewardship. The successful event concluded as a heartfelt tribute to the Mahatma’s legacy, fostering a spirit of community service and ecological awareness among all participants.
PHYSICAL SCIENCE
The Gandhi Jayanti Quiz Competition was successfully organized by the first-year Physical Science department of Mahatma College of Education, Nileshwar, in formal collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Held on October 8, 2025, at 02:30 PM in the college’s General Hall, the event served as a meaningful tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy of truth and non-violence. The venue was thoughtfully decorated with patriotic imagery, including the National tricolor and symbols like Gandhiji’s spectacles, fostering an atmosphere of historical reflection and competitive spirit. In a closely contested academic battle, Fathimath Dilshana and Kavya Madhavan (1st-year Mathematics) secured the first position, followed by Anagha and Devika Rajan (1st-year Social Science) in second place, while the teams of Rasitha M and Anusree T V, alongside Vishnupriya and Ageetha, shared the third position. Overall, the program was a resounding success, showcasing the leadership of the Physical Science department and providing students with an insightful platform to deepen their understanding of Gandhian philosophy.
SOCIAL SCIENCE
As a highlight of the Gandhi Jayanti week celebrations, the Social Science department of Mahatma College of Education, Nileshwar, presented an original documentary titled “From Birth to Death: The Life and Legacy of Mahatma Gandhi” on October 9, 2025, in the college’s General Hall. Entirely researched, scripted, narrated, and edited by the Social Science students under the guidance of Mr. Shanmugha Das, the film provided a comprehensive chronological journey from Gandhiji’s birth in Porbandar in 1869 to his martyrdom in 1948. The presentation meticulously covered his formative years in London, his awakening against racial injustice in South Africa, and his monumental leadership in the Indian Freedom Movement through milestones like the Dandi March and the Quit India Movement. Beyond historical facts, the documentary delved into core Gandhian philosophies such as Ahimsa (non-violence), Sarvodaya (welfare of all), and the significance of the Poona Pact. The project was a massive collaborative effort involving dedicated teams: Krishnapriya, Meera, Sreelakshmi, Aswathi V.V., Nihal, Megha, Thejalakshmi, and Arathi handled research; Anagha, Anusree, Aswathi S. Krishnan, Mahima, and Jeeshma managed content writing; Rasitha, Amrutha, and Akshaya provided the voiceovers; while Aswathi A., Libina, Devika, and Anagha oversaw video production and editing. Receiving an overwhelming response from the audience, the program not only honored the Mahatma’s enduring message of truth and equality but also served as a vital platform for students to sharpen their multimedia and leadership skills.
MATHEMATICS
As part of the Gandhi Jayanti week celebrations, the first-year Mathematics option students of Mahatma College of Education, Nileshwar, organized a high-energy anti-drug flash mob at GHSS Chayoth on October 30, 2025. Conducted under the expert guidance of the College Principal and faculty, the event was a unique collaboration with the Nileshwar Police Station team to spread awareness against substance abuse. Through synchronized dance and rhythmic performances, the students successfully captured the attention of the school community, delivering a powerful message on the importance of a drug-free life. This initiative not only honored the Gandhian principle of social well-being but also demonstrated the effective partnership between future educators and law enforcement in addressing critical social issues.
ENGLISH
As part of the Gandhi Jayanti week celebrations, the English department of Mahatma College of Education, Nileshwar, coordinated a series of daily activities during the college assembly to honor the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. The week-long program commenced on October 6 with a thoughtful book review of The Story of My Experiments with Truth, paired with word puzzles exploring his enduring legacy. On October 7, students engaged in the “Discover Gandhi” challenge, featuring interactive true-or-false riddles, followed by the October 8 elocution competition titled “Voice of Experience,” where participants reflected on Gandhian values in modern times. The final days of the celebration included a visual tribute through a video presentation on October 9 and a serene concluding ceremony on October 10, which featured the symbolic “Peace Tree” planting and a soulful rendition of Gandhiji’s favorite bhajans. Through this diverse range of activities, the English option students successfully fostered a spirit of peace and non-violence while enhancing the linguistic and oratorical skills of the student body.
