National Science Day 2026 is celebrated across India on February 28 to honor the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C.V. Raman in 1928, a feat that earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. The official theme for National Science Day 2026 is: “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat” This theme emphasizes the indispensable role of women scientists and innovators in driving India toward its goal of becoming a developed nation (Viksit Bharat) by 2047. The Physical Science department of Mahatma College of Education organized Science Day with the aim of fostering scientific temper, creativity, and active learning among student teachers.
Prior to the Science Day celebration, a preparatory meeting was conducted by the Physical Science option. The objectives of the programme were discussed, duties were allotted, and the schedule of activities was finalized. This meeting played a vital role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the programme.
As part of the Science day, college assembly in 26 Feb 2026, a special Morning Buzz session was organized. The highlight of this session was a Hologram demonstration done by second year physical science student Vibha, which introduced students to the basic principles of holographic technology. The demonstration explained concepts related to light and its applications and created curiosity and enthusiasm among students and teachers alike. The afternoon session commenced at 2:00 PM with the symbolic entry of C.V. Raman, commemorating his contributions to science. This was followed by an interactive session with students, emphasizing the importance of scientific inquiry, innovation, and dedication in the field of science.
Treasure Hunt competition was conducted to promote logical thinking, teamwork, and scientific knowledge. A total of 8 teams participated in the preliminary round.2 teams qualified for the final round. After an exciting competition, Anagha and Fathima from second year social science became the winners. A Digital Meme Competition was also conducted with the theme “Life as a Science Student.”3 teams participated in the competition. Students creatively presented their experiences, challenges, and humor related to science learning through digital memes, showcasing both creativity and scientific awareness.
The Science Day programme concluded at 3:30 PM with great enthusiasm and positive feedback from participants. The various activities conducted throughout the day successfully blended scientific learning with creativity and fun. The programme effectively achieved its objective of promoting interest in science and nurturing innovative thinking among student teachers.
