As part of the curricular enrichment activities, a Workshop on Art and Education was conducted on 7th March 2024 at Mahatma College of Education, Nileshwar. The main objective of this workshop was to encourage creativity and innovation in teaching by integrating artistic skills into classroom practices—particularly through the design and use of Learning Aids.
The programme began with a formal inauguration by Dr. Remya, Principal of Mahatma College of Education. In her inaugural address, she highlighted the transformative role of art in education and emphasized how the inclusion of artistic expression can enrich the learning experience and help educators connect better with their students.
Following this, Sri Pramod Aduthila, Retired Headmaster and State Resource Person for Art and Work Experience Education, delivered the introductory speech. Drawing on his vast experience, he offered valuable insights into the role of art in enhancing teaching effectiveness and fostering greater student engagement.
The main session of the workshop involved a live demonstration on Learning Aid preparation across a variety of school subjects, including Mathematics, Science, English, Languages, and Social Science. The student-teachers were grouped according to their subject specializations and assigned the task of creating subject-specific learning aids. This hands-on session offered participants the opportunity to apply both pedagogical knowledge and creative thinking to develop meaningful, engaging teaching tools.
The atmosphere throughout the session was vibrant and filled with enthusiasm. The teacher trainees worked collaboratively, experimenting with materials, colours, and concepts to bring their ideas to life. Their efforts culminated in a Learning Aid Exhibition, where each group showcased their innovative, subject-aligned teaching materials.
In the concluding session, faculty members evaluated the learning aids based on creativity, relevance to the curriculum, practicality, and educational value. Constructive feedback was provided, and marks were awarded as part of the internal assessment, further encouraging reflective practice and self-improvement.
The workshop proved to be both insightful and productive, offering the student-teachers a valuable platform to explore their creative potential while also understanding the practical application of art in education. It served as a significant step in shaping resourceful, imaginative, and reflective educators, capable of enriching their future classrooms through artistic integration.
